Inland Empire Auto Dealer Zoning Information

Make sure that you check with your local city in the Inland Empire before you start your zoning process because there are many cities that have their own zoning department, whereas there are some that just go off Riverside or San Bernardino counties recommendations. Here are some helpful links below:

  • Riverside County Business and Planning - One of the more difficult zoning offices to get a hold of. Your best bet would be to email them directly and wait for someone to get back to you.
  • San Bernardino County Planning – Reaching out directly over the phone is great, but when it comes to zoning verification, it’s always better to get things in writing.

What zoning are you looking for in the Inland Empire?

  • Retail Dealer License in the Inland Empire – The Inland Empire, by and large, is one of the easier places in all of California to get your dealer license. Some of the main reasons for that are the zoning is a little bit easier to navigate and the costs for commercial locations in lower.
    • A word of caution, try to avoid the city of Upland and Rancho Cucamonga to start a car dealership. They are very unhospitable to car dealers and if you decide you want to operate there, it will end up costing you more in setup cots.
    • Keep in mind that you’re looking for zoning for retailing used vehicles. Most cities and counties will want to know where you’re storing vehicles and if you’re going to be working on vehicles at your location.
  • Wholesale Dealer License in the Inland Empire – Essentially you could use just about any property due to a wholesale license will not require you to have signage up to get approved. Most cities will still want to know where you’re going to store your cars.
