Here are some helpful links to help you start your dealership in Los Angeles:

  • Los Angeles Zoning Department: It's important to remember before you start your dealership location, check with the zoning department in Los Angeles to make sure that your dealership is properly zoned.

    • Retail Dealership in Los Angeles: Keep in mind that the county of Los Angeles has some very strict zoning laws, and you want to make sure that you’ve done all the research needed to ensure that your dealership will process the first time through.

      PRO TIP: Look for a unit that has in door display only. A lot of the time the hangup that the city has is how used car lots look from the outside. Indicating that you’re planning on doing an indoor display model increases the chances that zoning will accept your application.

      Wholesale Dealership in Los Angeles: These, for the most part, are accepted throughout Los Angeles County however there are times where even wholesale can be challenging to get approved.

      PRO TIP: You are using your office for DMV use only and that no vehicles will be stored on site.

    Keep in mind that this is a regular DMV and, to get to the office for Occupational, you’ll need to go through the main doors and go off to the right for the office area.

  • When you're ready get your business license you will need to register with the City of Los Angeles.

  • If you will be using a fictitous business name you need to file a fictitous business name statement with the city of Los Angeles.
